Born in Bitra to the wealthy vintner Jatkan and his wife Ahuva, Carmen came into the world with a silver spoon already in her mouth. Two minutes later she'd traded the silver spoon in for a gold one by cheating at dice. Growing up, she was given every advantage, from tutors to governesses to gowns to gems to society. Her parents weren't the most affectionate of people, and so she grew into a very close bond with her elder brother, Lucien. Lucien was destined to be the family's heir and to take over for thier father upon his death, but Lucien grew sickened of his family's ambition and deceit and wanted no more to do with it. He fled, leaving Carmen suddenly thrust into place as heiress. Determined to keep the vineyards in the family, Jatkan defied tradition and began training Carmen--only 14 at the time--to manage the vineyards. In time, Carmen showed herself to have a shrewd business mind and a ruthless streak that would serve her well in such a cutthroat environment. Now that she's eighteen, and well into her majority, Carmen has taken over many aspects of her father's business in response to his failing health. Sadly, some bad decisions of her father's in the past few turns have left the family less well off than is acceptable, and so Jatkan and Ahuva have been looking for a suitable--and by that meaning wealthy--husband for their daughter. Carmen's opinions on this subject are unknown, though she maintains publicly that she is glad to serve her family.
